Welcome to our blog series, DataFlow Voices! In this series, we feature one-on-one interviews with our team members from around the globe. Get to know our team, learn about their experiences and find out what it’s like working at DataFlow.

Meet Rafi Hattar, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of the DataFlow Group. Rafi is based out of our Dubai office and is well-versed in establishing key strategic priorities and translating them into a comprehensive strategic plan, that spans the capabilities of the DataFlow Group across the world.

Find out what achievements our CCO is particularly proud of at DataFlow, what values drive his professional life and the best career advice he ever received!

Hi Rafi! Can you introduce yourself to our readers, please?

I’m an optimist that is always looking to make a positive impact. Career-wise, for the past 25 years, I have focused on growth, relationship building, expanding, and creating new business. Outside work, I’m a father of three boys and am passionate about music, sports and history.

How did you first get into sales, marketing and strategic planning?

My educational background is in electrical engineering but after I graduated, I was drawn to roles where I could interact with people and create value by introducing solutions and new ideas. Based on that, I took on sales and business development roles. I went on to do an MBA in business and expanded my experience in marketing, strategic planning, human capital development and other areas. I grew into leadership roles leading business teams and managing growth in several sectors and regions.

What drew you to a career at the DataFlow Group?

DataFlow is a growing company that provides a valuable contribution to communities worldwide. I am proud to be in a position where I can be a key contributor to this growth.

What is something you’re particularly proud of that you’ve achieved at the DataFlow Group?

I’m proud to have built a strong team focused on growth and serving clients. During the pandemic, we did a splendid job supporting our healthcare partners and we were part of several important initiatives. Not only that, we also signed significant partnerships that contribute to the growth and development of DataFlow and the journey toward continued success.

How do you think the DataFlow Group makes the world a better place?

DataFlow partners with the organizations that supervise and regulate the jobs and services that directly affect people’s lives, where we safeguard the well-being of our communities by helping our partners to select and license highly qualified professionals as well as preventing fraudulent and incompetent people from causing damage or loss to organizations or the individuals that they work with.

What are the values that drive you in your professional life?

Hard work, integrity and passion for what you do.

Where are we most likely to find you outside of work?

With my family.

How do you like to begin your day?

Beginning my morning with exercise really sets me up for a productive day.

What are your thoughts on mental health support in the workplace?

Mental health is not a cliche; employers need to give it much more attention. People are increasingly subjected to stress and pressure to deliver while simultaneously catering to the growing needs of their families or selves. Work-life balance is very important and helps to prevent burnout.

How do you achieve a good work-life balance?

I like to spend my free time with family and not bring work-related issues home. Sport is an excellent way for me to relieve any stress. In addition to that, I enjoy unwinding by listening to music and I try to eat healthy, when possible, even though it’s not an easy job!

What is the best career advice you received?

Good ideas are not enough. Implementation is what counts.

Can you tell us a fun fact about you?

I play guitar, love classic rock and have attended many live rock band concerts.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Positive, ambitious and calm.

Stay tuned to our DataFlow Voices blog series to hear more from DataFlow colleagues like Rafi Hattar about their career journeys, what it’s really like working at the DataFlow Group, and what they value most about their impact on our organization, customers, clients and mission.

DataFlow Group Outreach to Issuing Authorities in Africa

African countries in North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa are significant contributors of nurses to employers in the Middle East. In addition to its office in Egypt, the DataFlow Group has a network of partners in other parts of Africa to reach out to issuing authorities for verifications.

The focus is now on getting maximum IA’s from Africa to sign up on DigiFlow.net, the online verification platform from the DataFlow Group, and to have closer ties with all the major high-volume issuing authorities in Africa.

Nigeria

A senior leadership onsite was organized in June 2022 to visit several Issuing Authorities in Nigeria.

We met with senior leaders from important issuing authorities like the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, Federal Medical Centre, National Hospital and Asokoro District Hospital in Abuja Nigeria.

Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN)

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) is one of the most critical high-volume issuing authorities for the DataFlow Group for nurses traveling from Africa to different parts of the Middle East seeking overseas employment.

Identifying the need to improve relationships and establish seamless verification processes, DataFlow’s Issuing Authorities Relationship team approached NMCN’s senior leadership and engaged in several rounds of meaningful discussions.

These discussions resulted in an exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between NMCN and Apurva Tandon, Global Director of Operations, on behalf of the DataFlow Group on 8th June 2022 at the NMCN HQ in Abuja, Nigeria, at a formal event in the presence of the NMCN Governing Council.

Recently, NMCN went online for all their processes, including verifications for their ex-Alumni

With the MOU in place with the DataFlow Group, Dataflow Group has been included as a special partner in the online process for the alumni to select while applying for verifications online.

Once the application is completed online, the verification confirmation is shared with DataFlow Group directly by NMCN, an exception process customized only for DataFlow Group.

Zimbabwe

As part of a decision at the political level to curtail the exodus of trained nurses from Zimbabwe, the Nursing Council of Zimbabwe had put restrictions on providing verifications for nurses to all international requesters. A large number of verification requests of applicants from the DataFlow Group clients were stuck with the Nursing Council of Zimbabwe.

A concerted effort was launched to meet the senior leadership within the issuing authority to discuss the plight of applicants stuck in different parts of the world and on the verge of losing their jobs. As a result of these efforts, the senior leadership within the IA agreed to release verifications to DataFlow Group as a special exception.

Sudan

Many critical and high-volume issuing authorities from Sudan have been onboarded on the DigiFlow.net online verification platform reducing the turnaround from these issuing authorities drastically.

Among these are the Sudan Medical Council and The Sudan National Council for Medical and Health Professionals, apart from a number of other universities and colleges. These IAs have shared excellent feedback that DigiFlow.net has reduced their time for verifying checks by more than 50%.

Many other issuing authorities are being reached out for onboarding on the DigiFlow.net online platform.

Ready to automate the past? Let DigiFlow automate verification requests from your former employers, students and members so that you can focus on the future.

DataFlow Voices: Meet Tony Fargher – CFO

DataFlow-Voices-Tony-Fargher-1200x627-1-768x428

Welcome to our blog series, DataFlow Voices! In this series, we feature one-on-one interviews with our team members from around the globe. Get to know our team, learn about their experiences and find out what it’s like working at DataFlow.

Meet Tony Fargher, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the DataFlow Group. Originally from Wellington in New Zealand, Tony is based out of our Dubai office. Our CFO’s greatest strengths are his razor-sharp analytical ability and stellar interpersonal skills, which have helped him build successful relationships throughout the company.

Find out what a day in the life of a CFO is like and hear more about Tony’s passion for data verification to make the fight against fraud more effective:

Hi Tony! Can you tell our readers more about what it’s like to work at DataFlow?

I like coming to work each day knowing that what we do protects people and communities and changes lives for the better.

Firstly, we ensure that professionals seeking to move into a new country are who they say they are through Primary Source Verification (PSV). If they attempt to use fraudulent documents/credentials, we will help prevent this from happening, therefore protecting the people that would have otherwise been impacted. This is very important in industries such as healthcare, engineering and education/immigration in particular.

For the vast majority of professionals not attempting to use fraudulent documents, we offer services via our TrueProfile.io platform that will help and support them in the life-changing process of moving to a new country to further their careers and gain new experiences.

Being part of a company that has, at its heart, the core objective of protecting and helping people makes working at the DataFlow Group fulfilling.

What did you do before joining the DataFlow Group?

I am a qualified Chartered Accountant and hold a 1st Class Honours degree in Accounting and Commercial Law. Before joining the DataFlow Group in 2018, I spent nearly seven years at Serco Group plc, a FTSE 250 UK listed company, as Finance Director. There, I oversaw their Integrated Services Sector across the Middle East.

Prior to that, I worked as the Finance Director of the Mubadala subsidiary John Buck International in Abu Dhabi. Before that, I worked with Goldman Sachs Bank in London and PwC in Wellington, New Zealand, my hometown.

What do you love most about what you do?

As the CFO, I am lucky to be able to engage with our people and teams across the entire company. I typically have daily interactions with DataFlow staff from Operations, IT, Sales, Account Management and HR, in addition to my amazing Finance team.

This means that there is a huge amount of variety in each day and week as we work together across functions to deliver in the best way that we can for the thousands of applicants that rely on us each month to verify their documents and provide them with high-value services.

Can you tell us a fun fact about you, Tony?

The story of how I proposed to my wife is quite unusual. We were on holiday in Jordan and on a day trip to Wadi Rum in the middle of the desert. I somehow found myself proposing to her when we were both sitting on the backs of different camels at sunset… The ring transfer, in hindsight, was quite a high risk!

Stay tuned to our DataFlow Voices blog series to hear more from DataFlow colleagues like Tony Fargher about their career journeys, what it’s really like working at the DataFlow Group, and what they value most about their impact on our organization, customers, clients and mission.

DataFlow’s CSR Campaign To Provide Safe Drinking Water for Children in India

Safe and readily available clean drinking water is crucial for public health. In India, it’s estimated that less than half of the population has access to the basic, but essential commodity of clean drinking water.

The absence of clean drinking water causes waterborne diseases to thrive and Unicef estimates the economic burden of this to be in the region of 600 million USD per year.

The most concerning impact of a lack of clean drinking water is on India’s children. As stated in the Convention on the Rights of a Child, “All children have the right to clean water and basic sanitation.” To support this and to safeguard the health of the children and make them the agents of change in the community, the DataFlow Group joined forces with Naandi Community Water Services and Ipure as part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts.

Naandi Community Water Services and Ipure, under its School Water Program, ensures free access to safe drinking water and hygiene education to children (WASH – Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, initiated by Unicef) at schools and creche centres in the communities.

The DataFlow Group has reached out to around 1,500 school children through two government schools in Hyderabad and another government school in Jangam, India, for the year 2022-23 under its CSR Program to try to ensure that these children have access to safe drinking water.

The program was inaugurated in Hyderabad on 23 July 2022, which received wide coverage in vernacular local news paper “Andhra Prabha”. Collectively, we’re proud to be able to help protect communities in conjunction with the efforts of Naandi Community Water Service and Ipure.

DataFlow Sponsored Healthcare Roundtable Event Supporting International Nurses in the UK

The latest DataFlow-sponsored healthcare roundtable event, brought 11 healthcare leaders and decision-makers within the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) together to discuss the importance of supporting international nurses to work, live and thrive in the UK successfully.

The healthcare roundtable, chaired by Megan Ford from the Nursing Times in London, focused on international recruitment as a partial solution to address the ongoing shortage of nurses in the UK. CEO of DataFlow, Sunil Kumar and CCO of DataFlow, Rafi Hattar, were in attendance.

Data presented showed that 23,408 international nurses from countries such as India and the Philippines joined the UK’s nursing register between April 2021 and March 2022. Over the past year, 1,700 international nurses have joined the NHS in England monthly.

The shortage of an estimated 60,000 nurses across the UK resulted from multiple factors, including the coronavirus pandemic and nurses leaving the workforce to retire. The International Council of Nurses predicts a global shortage of 13 million nurses over the next ten years.

Throughout the healthcare roundtable, discussions moved from competition between countries for hiring from overseas, coordinated international and domestic sustainable approaches, ethical international recruitment, staff retention, representation in the workplace, career growth, funding career development goals and continued pastoral care.

Key Points From Members of the Healthcare Roundtable Panel

1. Professor Jim Buchan, Visiting Professor at the School of Nursing, University of Edinburgh

Professor Buchan said that a broader range of countries are ramping up their international recruitment efforts as they continue to rely on overseas talent since the pandemic. He also noted that, in some cases, this was happening due to issues with workforce retention and aging workforces, particularly in high-income countries. Competing for talent against other countries, Professor Buchan highlighted that the UK “might see a situation where our own nurses are attracted to other countries.”

Additionally, Professor Buchan said that international and domestic coordinated efforts would allow for short and long-term sustainable recruitment approaches, which he thinks are already emerging in the UK but “less apparent in some other countries, which perhaps don’t have a national health system infrastructure.”

2. Linda Everet, Interim Deputy Director for Professional Regulation at the NMC

Given the UK’s increase in hiring nurses from overseas, Linda Evert from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) discussed the importance of ethical international recruitment. “We are here to regulate nurses, but obviously we have a wealth of data, we have a wealth of information that we can use to help inform policy, support and influence,” said Ms. Everet when discussing how to protect the nursing workforce.

On this point, the roundtable discussed how nurses coming to the UK from “red list” countries – which targeted recruitment should not occur due to health workforce shortages – must receive the same support and protection as nurses not on the red list.

From there, the discussion moved toward staff retention and best practice to give international nurses pastoral care as well as schemes to support nurses with necessities such as accommodation, schools, visas, driving lessons, and networking opportunities to connect nurses from overseas.

3. Ruth Oshikanlu, MBE, Entrepreneur and Chief Executive Officer, Goal Mind

Ruth Oshikanlu, a nurse by background, discussed how she has supported nurses who did not receive “wraparound” care and, as a result, had a bad experience when moving to work in the UK. Oshikanlu emphasized the need for various efforts to continue supporting nursing colleagues in the workplace and to support their career progression, so it’s not delayed.

4. Felicia Kwaku, Royal College of Nursing International Committee Member

Felicia Kwaku explained that the delayed career growth mentioned by Ruth Oshikanlu was due to a lack of representation for nurses of minority ethnic backgrounds at lower band levels.

5. Duncan Burton, Deputy Chief Nursing Officer for England

Continuing the discussion of career progression and discussing a new NHS England funding offer to push accelerated development goals for international nurses, Burton addressed the need to interview international nurses for roles higher than band 5 so as “to progress people much quicker into senior clinical roles or senior leadership roles.”

6. Professor Deborah Sturdy, Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care in England

Agreeing with Burton, Professor Sturdy highlighted how nurses from the UK would never expect to move to another country with a high level of training and career profession and begin their work at the bottom. She also urged that although there is awareness of these issues, “it has got to be much more action-focused.”

7. Caroline Waterfield, Director of Development and Employment at NHS Employers

Caroline Waterfield highlighted how the initial support international nurses receive coming to the UK is really strong, but the support needs to continue. Looking to the future, Waterfield asked, “How do we have something in place which is sustainable and complementary to the domestic recruitment activity that we are also investing in and needing to focus on?”

Final Word

The DataFlow roundtable panel concluded on the need to focus on plans to improve retention, increase well-being and facilitate the career progression of international recruits. Ultimately, a whole-scale approach is needed to ensure that international nurses who set their sights on a career in the UK are supported throughout their professional journey. This approach will only be successful with the combined efforts of colleagues, senior management, system leaders and regulators.

The Healthcare Roundtable Panel

  • Megan Ford, (chair), Senior Reporter, Nursing Times
  • Deborah Sturdy, Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care, Department of Health and Social Care

For professionals looking for work opportunities in Gulf locations such as Bahrain, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar, it is essential to have a professional license from the governing bodies and regulators. To get a professional license, individuals must obtain a Primary Source Verification (PSV) Report for their application to the regulatory authority in the region. For example, professionals who want to apply for an NHRA license in Bahrain must submit a Primary Source Verification report. However, the applicants who have already completed the  Primary Source Verification process previously but are moving to a new location or authority do not need to undergo the entire verification process again. Thankfully, you can use DataFlow’s Report Transfer service to save valuable time and money, speeding up the process of obtaining a professional license from the relevant authority.

What is a Report Transfer and how do I use this service?

Are you putting your PSV application at risk?

shutterstock_1505506217

If you are applying for primary source verification (PSV) with the DataFlow Group, we want to make sure that you do so only via authorized channels.

It’s come to our attention that some applicants are unknowingly applying for their DataFlow verification via unaccredited third parties. These entities are attempting to provide the DataFlow Report with entirely fraudulent information. When submitted by you – the applicant – the application is flagged as being fraudulent and the repercussions of document fraud can result in severe legal penalties.

If you attempt to use an unauthorized third-party vendor for assistance with PSV application, you run the risk of the following:

  • Legal implications of document fraud
  • You will not be able to work in that region
  • You might get blacklisted in throughout all GCC countries
  • You will lose money and time

How should you apply for your DataFlow Report?

We want to ensure that our applicants successfully apply for their DataFlow report using the correct channels. This means applying for your report directly with the DataFlow Group. This can be done easily via our portal.

The below video outlines how to apply for your DataFlow verification for SCFHS. Video guides for other regulatros can be found on our YouTube channel.
