The Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP), formerly known as Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners (QCHP) , as part of the State of Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), is the sole authority responsible for the regulation of all healthcare practitioners, including doctors and physicians, dentists, nurses, pharmacists and allied healthcare practitioners, working in both Qatar’s public and private healthcare sectors. Under its vision ‘Our Health Our Future’, Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health is improving the health of Qatar’s population and meeting the needs of existing and future generations through the provision of an integrated system that aims to achieve better health, care and value for all.
Who needs to register and apply for a license?
All healthcare practitioners who wish to work within Qatar’s healthcare sector must be registered and licensed by The Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP). This applies to physicians, dentists, nurses, allied healthcare practitioners, complementary medicine practitioners, trainees with no experience, clinical nurse specialists, nurse practitioners, nurse educators, and visiting physicians and dentists. In addition to educational certificates, applicants also need to demonstrate relevant experience and good standing from their home country, or previous country in which they qualified if applicable.
Applying for and receiving your license to practise is a critical step in DHP’s pursuit of developing Qatar’s healthcare sector and ensuring all healthcare practitioners are competent to practise, in addition to assuring patient safety and the quality of services provided.
